- o novo modelo de espectáculo, que abandona a simples procissão de apresentadores e vencedores para regressar a um espectáculo que cativa audiências;

- particularmente bem conseguidos os novos modelos de apresentação dos Óscares de actuação, com cinco vencedores prévios a apresentar cada um dos nomeados -- as presenças de Eva Marie Saint para a Melhor Actriz Secundária e Sophia Loren a apresentar Meryl Streep (quem de resto poderia apresentar Meryl Streep, na sua 15ª nomeação e reforço de record? A primeira vencedora por interpretação num idioma que não o inglês seria provavelmente uma das poucas credíveis) foram inspiradas e inspiradoras, bem como os discursos de Shirley MacLaine (sobre Anne Hathaway), Robert de Niro (sobre Sean Penn) e Cuba Gooding, Jr. (sobre Robert Downey, Jr.);

- o regresso do musical, homenagem liderada por um Hugh Jackman em grande forma que utilizou (bem) a sua vasta experiência da Broadway (acompanhado por Beyonce Knowles e outros num medley de prévios vencedores dos Óscares coreografado por Baz Luhrmann);

- a vitória de "Slumdog Millionaire", que com 8 estatuetas assume um palmarés digno de nota, incluindo Melhor Filme, Melhor Realizador e Melhor Argumento Adaptado deverá ter feito sorrir todos os espectadores;

- a surpreendente vitória de Sean Penn, em "Milk", bem como o seu discurso marcadamente político (uma dimensão algo ausente este ano);

- a esperada - e muito gratificante - vitória de Kate Winslet, por "The Reader";

- a vitória póstuma de Heath Ledger em "The Dark Knight" (a segunda vitória póstuma, depois de Peter Finch em "Network" em 1976);

- as poucas surpresas;

As nomeações em televisão destacaram muitos dos suspeitos do costume, incluindo "Dexter", "Brothers and Sisters", "House", "24", "Californication", "Weeds", a par de coisas novas: "In Treatment" (HBO), "Mad Men", "True Blood" (HBO). Entre os ignorados, "Grey's Anatomy", "Heroes" e "Lost".
